Are You Ready?

This is my second installment in the 'Stories from a Fundamentalist Christian Childhood.' The first being last week's 'Hell Awaits.'

The soundtrack for this episode uses excepts from Metallica's 'For Whom the Bell Tolls.'

Good stuff, Jeff. A poignant reminder that religion can be more hurtful to people who are naturally trying to "do the right thing". That's some evil shit!

Another strong video.
"Obviously pious".....I guess it could have seemed that way for a while. But it was obviously not the truth. Trusting fully in a fellow human being will ultimately lead to let down.
I believe faith must be focused on the One who is faithful. The God of the Bible is the only one worthy of truly being trusted. He is the only one in whom we can have faith. Why should we trust anyone else?
It is unfortunate, it is outrageous that those of us (I am including myself with proclaimers of Christ who fail to the detriment of others) who are to represent God do such a bad job of it but this is really not much of a surprise. God tells us this story again and again in the Bible. He tells of of men who disgrace him day after day but contrasts it with the story of himself, the God who gives grace to the undeserving. He does this through faith and not as a result of the good people do, or don't do.
Things like this (when people who proclaim to believe fail) serve as proof to me. They stand to argue for the need of a God of all grace, because it is evident that all of us fall short of God's standards, we, I believe, even fall short of the standards we set for ourselves.
Faith in God is not faith in the church, it is not faith in a preacher, it is not faith in an organization.
Faith in God is simple; it is believing God.
Though simple, this isn't always easy. I believe God helps us to have faith in him. And I believe it is often difficult to live in faith and battle the doubt. But I believe living with no faith in God, living ignorant to the God of creation is tragic and falls short of a truly full life.
